Tuesday night saw a Blacks double header with the Blacks men and women playing at the same venue at the same time. The Blacks men getting a big win against a tough South team in a shoot-out score line of 105-99 – apparently both teams learnt from the Boomers v Philippines disaster and agreed no physicality on defence would be safest!

On our court however, it was much more of a scrap. Eager Beaver Dani was absent due to her overseas trip to see our much missed AG (it was noted that Lachie’s planning was a little bit more thought out, sneaking in one last game before heading away the next day), and our favourite Pokemon Evie was away on her virgin Uni Games duties, leaving the Blacks ladies with 5 players to take on Flinders Uni.

We started well, out to a 18-8 lead at quarter time. The second quarter was much tighter as we traded buckets managing to push our lead out slightly, up 28-15 at the half.

We had a ripper start in the third with a quick 6 points, up 34-15 causing FU to call an early time out. From there we again traded buckets and kept the margin at 17, up 45-28 going into the last.

In the last quarter the game got interesting, and we were definitely thankful of Super Coach Tuz for all the running we have been doing at training, knowing we had the fitness to hold on. Only having 5 players, fouls were always going to be a concern, but thankfully we all did much better at keeping our hands out.

Unfortunately poor Baby Huey Laura couldn’t get her feet moving and her frame out the way, racking up a number of body fouls resulting in her fouling out the game with a bit under 6 mins to play….our lead at this stage had been pegged back to 11, up 47-36. Left with 4 on the court we knuckled down and held tight and I couldn’t be prouder of the girls. We stifled their scoring and managed to sneak a couple of buckets ourselves running down the clock and getting out of jail with a 51-45 win. Everyone putting in an excellent contribution, Hail Storm Halyz knocked down 10, Baby Huey 8, Dusty 9, Rex 6 and I managed 18.

Looking forward to our next challenge in Norwood, hopefully bringing back our favourite Pokemon in Evie, and fingers crossed Baby Huey can last 4 quarters after consecutive three-quarter games!

Go Blacks!
