The Adelaide Uni Squash Club is a primarily social squash club with a relaxed atmosphere. We cater to all skill levels, from those that have never touched a squash racquet all the way up to those that would find themselves at home in the Metro Squash League.
Membership is not only available to Adelaide University students, all are welcome. We are also able to give people a free 'Come and Try' session. Your first session with us will be free when ever you choose to come along.
Once a member, you have access to hire equipment at the Squash Courts free of charge. All members are expected to behave according to the 'AU Squash Club Code of Conduct'.
The Club also has a no-obligation Facebook group, where any AU student can join and see the weekly events and any other club updates. We encourage anyone with interest to join the club, even if you dont plan on attending immediately.
If you would like to 'Come and Try' please first contact either the Club President via email (email@example.com) or the Facebook group (Aidan Karayilan). This will ensure that a session will actually be running prior to you making a commitment to attending.
To join the AU Squash Club please click on the 'Join Now' button on this page. It is also advised that you join the Facebook group (Adelaide Uni Squash Club) as it is the most up to date source of information for the club.
The once-off AU Squash Club fees are set at $10 for AU Students for 12 months.
For non-AU students, there is an additional $88 fee to join AU Sport. The AU Sport Membership fee covers you for insurance and is standard for all AU Sports Clubs. Note that you only have to pay the $88 fee once per year and it covers all AU Sports clubs.
Additional to this is a per session fee that is payable to the Norwood Squash Centre of $10. Normal walk-in prices are up to $14.50 per half hour. For our 2 hour sessions, this represents a discount of a huge 80%!
You are only charged per-session fees for the sessions you attend and attendance is purely no-obligation. You may come for a month and decide its not for you. You may only be able to come every now and then. We are here to cater to you.
Norwood Squash Centre, 233 The Parade Norwood SA 5067
The AU Squash Club has a regular booking at the Norwood Squash Centre at the following time(s):
Friday 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The Friday sessions will be co-supervised by a qualified squash coach who will pop his head in regularly to help out with technique advice and the like. This sesson is ideal for everyone, beginner through to experienced players.
The Adelaide Uni Squash Club has a club bag with racquets available for hire for free. The only requirement for members is to wear non-marking shoes (which includes almost all sports shoes sold today).
Unfortunately the AU Squash Club doesn't currently have any teams in the Adelaide Metro League. We can, however, bring you into contact with clubs throughout the city if you are interested in playing competitively.
For example, the Norwood Squash Club is one of the largest clubs in the Adelaide Metro League and has many teams throughout almost every division. The Autumn Pennant for 2016 has already begun but, for those interested, you can nominate yourself to Con Psaromatis at Norwood Squash Club as a fill-in. This may progress to a permanent position in a team for the Spring Pennant beginning in August.
Other clubs include Walkerville YMCA, Ingle Farm, Campbelltown, South Adelaide, Next Generation and West Adelaide to name only a few.
Outside of regular competition are University based events such as the SA Challenge, Southern University Games and Australian University Games.
The SA Challenge is a competition between UniSA, Flinders and Adelaide Uni in a number of sports, squash amongst them. This is open to any students and is an individual event. This event in 2016 is on Friday April 8 and you can register here.
Squash is held as a singles competition at the Southern University Games and a teams event (of up to 6 players) at the Australian University Games. These positions are subject to trials closer to the event. The Adelaide Uni Squash team won back to back titles at the AUG in 2012 in Adelaide and 2013 at the Gold Coast. We got a silver medal in 2014 in Sydney and a 4th place in the 2015 Games in the Gold Coast. For the first time since 2012, we were not able to field a team at the 2016 AUG's due to lack of numbers. We hope to change this for 2017.
We have unfortunately not fielded a girls team in recent years which has gotten us firm talkings to by the other Uni's girls teams. We will be trying extra hard in 2017 to take a girls team to try contest for yet another medal.
Simply ask at any session if you would like further information.
If you are interested in helping run the Club just let any of the Committee members know.
