AWARDS - VOLUNTEER AND COACH OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Each year, AU Sport recognises some very important people in our sporting community - our Volunteers and Coaches. We do this by awarding Volunteer (student and non-student) and Coaches (elite and development) of the Year at the annual Blues function from 2015.

We already recognise long term volunteers with the ‘Service to University Sport’ awards, however, especially with students who may only study at the University for three or four years, these awards are not relevant for ‘short term’ volunteers.

Volunteer of the Year Award
As for the Patron’s Cup for club achievement, the new Volunteer awards recognise a volunteer who has made a significant contribution during the year of the award, rather than over a period of say, three years. This will equally apply to non-student volunteers.

The Board can nominate suitable persons, but most of the nominations will be received from clubs or individuals from clubs nominating others. The Board will make the final decision on the award winners.

1st round Volunteer of the Year Award applications close on 6 May 2017 and 2nd round applications close on 13 October 2017. Coach of the Year Award
A long term coach can also receive a ‘Service to University Sport’ award, however, as for the Volunteer award above, the Coach award is to recognise a significant contribution during the year of the award.

The Coaches awards are separated into elite and development categories, and is open to coaches who are either paid, receive an honorarium or volunteer. A salaried coach is not eligible. An elite coach is defined as a coach who has responsibility for the “A Grade team”. The rules for nomination & decision are as for the Volunteer awards.

1st round Coach of the Year Award applications close on 6 May 2017 and 2nd round applications close on 13 October 2017.
