As is the norm when having a late game at Port Adelaide the game before us had 3949347586 time outs and fouls in the last quarter meaning we had only 3 minutes warm up time. Luckily a few of us had muscled our way on court 3 to do some running and take some shots, not realising we had actually interrupted the warm up of the game to start on that court, oops! We started the game in flying fashion, rushing out to a 9-2 lead on the back of Kamikaze Lexi having her best game for the Blacks, hitting a handy 8 and getting some big defensive stops. Unfortunately we couldn’t build on the early lead and Forestville had pegged us back to make it 13-9 at the quarter break.
Everyone’s favourite Pokemon, Evie, had another ripper game finishing with 19, including a break out second quarter, knocking down three 3’s in tandem with Dani tidying up with some nice shots to help blow out the margin. Luckily our Eager Beaver Dani didn’t get lost on her way to Port Adelaide this time, unlike previous duck worthy moments, second top scoring with 11, and doubling her rebound count on each shot…hopefully the scores continue but maybe not the extra rebounds! We
closed out the half up 37-21.
The third quarter wasn’t our best, but we weathered the storm, readjusted to some foul happy umpiring (also known as lazy slappy hands by us), and managed to hold a lead 49-37 going into the last. Our favourite Wrecking Ball Gabby made sure the Forestville girls earnt every possession, and Tammy the Hitman Walker (please note I only had 2 fouls this week though thankyou), regressed to 10 years ago and tried to stand on the old diagonal keyway for a Forestville foul shot – my bad. With our Wrecking Ball, Pokemon and Baby Huey all in foul trouble going into the last we needed to listen to Super Coach Tuz and play smart hard defence to get back to our fast break scoring ways. With Hail Storm, J-Mac, Baby Huey, Wrecking Ball and Eager Beaver grabbing plenty of big boards we managed to make some space and open up the game. Our guards, Pokemon, Miles, Kamikaze, and myself continued to pressure up the court and we managed to keep Forestville to 6 in the last and
finished the game winning 68-43.
Looking forward to seeing a write up of the AUBC pubcrawl next week, then we have a big test
coming up in Game 4 against South, bring it on. Go Blacks!
