Preliminary Final night was a big night for the Blacks with both the Div 1 Men and Women playing at the same time. We got to warm up together on the spare court which was a menacing site with Blacks uniforms everywhere. As the balls bounced around I was impressed to see Josh "The Assassin" Warnock also manage to knock down some dunks under more pressure than an NBA Dunk contest! He’d get a 10 just for dodging the balls in the air!

The boys got going first and were in for a real fight with the score tight until West got out by 5 late in the second. West up 43-38 at the start of the third, our boys rallied on the back of Toby "Ranger" Lightheart having a 12-point quarter to put us up 62-57. The fourth went down to the wire. West stayed close thanks to some long-range bombs and the Blacks were only up by 1 with 11 seconds left. West advance the ball from a time out, our boys play some super defence and get the stop, Matthew "Houdini" Rogers with the ball gets fouled and knocks down the foul shot to put us up by 2. Houdini ends up with the ball off the rebound and once again is fouled. This time knocking down both shots to seal the game for the Blacks, winning by 4 points, 80-76. Ranger finishing with 30, Bobo 14, and the Assassin 13. The boys now take on the Tigers next week in the Grand Final, 7.30pm at Port Adelaide, with some real momentum.

Thankfully our game was a ripper, but in a different way to the men. We were keen to get a good start and we did just that. We got out to a 10-0 lead half way through the first. First play we got a steal and I tried to run through them like a steam train, copping a rare charge. Then Our Favourite Pokemon made her first layup (woohoo), followed by Stacey ‘CJ’ Franceschinis hitting a quick 6 points and we knew we were on. We went into the first quarter break with a healthy 27-10 margin.

With Super Coach Tuz having 9 fired up players to put on the court, we each ran our hearts out and were rotated through meaning we never let up, everyone contributing at both ends of the floor. Centrals managed to trade points in the second though, the margin at 16 at the half, 41-25.

The start of the third saw Pokemon and I create a quick steal and score, followed by Centrals getting a tech foul for deciding to make a sub on the score…there was no turning back from there as we put the foot to the floor and got out to a 33-point lead at three-quarter time, up 65-32.

With everyone feeling confident we didn’t stop there, winning by an emphatic 42 points, our biggest margin against Centrals for years. The final score 84-42.

In a huge turnaround from last week, everyone hit the scoreboard. Adrienne ‘Rocky’ Worrell hit a nice 3 and made her presence felt with 4 hard hitting fouls. Lexi ‘Rex’ Atkins also hustled hard with 4 fouls and knocked down 4 points. Hail Storm ‘The Voice’ Van Rossen, hit 4 points and found her mid-season mojo again. Jaz ‘Dusty’ Moyle was back to her confident best with 9 points. Baby Huey Laura was unstoppable for her 10 points. Eager Beaver Dan and our favourite Pokemon Evie had an important 11 each, both making a huge impact in defence as well. Stacey aka CJ hit 15 on the back of a ripper start and was huge on the boards all night. I finish with 17, thanks to Centrals not knowing who to guard giving me a bit of freedom in the second half.

Now we have earnt ourselves a spot in the Grand Final with a re-match against South and we have a point to prove. There is no tomorrow and there is no second chance. Dream it. Achieve it.

So, I call again on our awesome Blacks Army that has helped us get this far!! Don’t under estimate the impact you have all had! So please come and cheer loud and proud at Port Adelaide, the men at 7.30pm and keep it going for the Women at 8.50pm and let’s make it a successful night for the Adelaide Uni Blacks. Let’s get the job done!

People often ask us!
Who we are, and where do we come from.
and so I tell them….
We come from Adelaide Uni.
The mighty mighty mighty mighty mighty mighty uni..
If they can’t hear us. We yell a little bit louder!
Go Blacks!
