Tuesday night saw the Blacks ladies take on the Bearcats at Port Adelaide. Again we were treated with a nice long warm up, almost without entertainment, other than catching our favourite Pokemon over shooting our bench while engrossed in her phone….some might say in true gangsta style! Or was she heading back to the West bench, I sure hope not!
We started the game in emphatic fashion, up 10-0 in the first few minutes. Gangsta all over them with 9 opening term points. The second quarter saw us give the Bearcats a sniff, still playing well but not capitalising on the score board, missing too many open looks and again using our hands more than our feet in defence….I gave my best shot at blocking Loz out the key and failed miserably….apparently she is still tall and I am still short! We closed out the half up 30-14 with plenty of improvement to be made.
The second half saw the Blacks ladies click into gear and play some tough defence creating some nice fast break scores, outscoring West 39-24 – again this should have been more with less fouls and more easy baskets made but these things will come.
Lexi ‘Rex’ Atkins was all over them in defence, but didn’t reward her efforts at the offensive end this week. Our bigs Hailstorm Hayley, Baby Huey Laura, Eager Beaver Dani and Jess ‘Simon’ Gianquitto proved too much for the opposition, dominating the boards and making it hard for the West players to enter the keyway.
Gangsta Evie, and Tammy Turtle finished the game with 20 points each, Eager Beaver Dani knocked down another 10 and Jaz ‘Bee sting’ Moyle continued her average with a handy 9 points to round out the game.
A good win by the girls, but we can do better. Next challenge, Sturt at Port Adelaide.
