Program Update - University of Adelaide Women’s Rugby Sevens
The Women’s Rugby Sevens program is gaining traction amongst the South Australian Community with over 100 Students and Community members registering their interest for the program in 2017.
Head Coach, James O'Keefe, has been overwhelmed by interest so far, but believes there are plenty more to come. After two weeks in the role, James has set his sights on all sports to ensure that the community knows that this program is for everyone, no matter your sporting background or level of experience.
“We have seen many sportswomen sign up from different sporting backgrounds including; Touch, Lacrosse, Basketball, Netball, AFL, Athletics and Ice Hockey, which is extremely pleasing to see, as we will share this multi-sport similarity with the current Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens Squad”.
The program has recently been bolstered by the inclusion of three nationally contracted rugby sevens athletes that consist of two Rio Olympic Gold Medallists. “The inclusion of the national squad members will set the standard of our program and will also expose the squad to the requirements to compete at the international level. It will be a great learning experience for the squad to train side by side with them”.
Adelaide University Sport encourages you to sign up and give the program a go. Compulsory trials for the Squad will be conducted over the next four weeks on the following dates:
Date: 23 & 30 April, 7 & 14 May
Location: Park 10 Oval #1
Trials for the squad will consist of four components:
Introduction to Rugby Sevens
Strength & Conditioning
Skills Testing & Analysis
