Our 3 take on the World

Posted By Mike Daws on 31/07/2017

AU Sport is pleased to announce that three University of Adelaide students – Lilly Foster (Diving), William Campbell (Fencing) and Joseph Parnis (Water Polo) - have been selected to represent Australia at the 2017 Summer Universiade, commonly known as World University Games. The Australian team – The Uni Roos - will take on University students from across the world at the event which will be held in Taiwan.

Lilly says “Representing my country is a huge honour and I am beyond excited. Being selected means so much for me. This will be my first ever international competition or even international trip in my life. I am excited for how the competition is set up like the Olympics, with an athlete’s village etc. It will also be amazing to meet so many new people, make new friends and be able to show my skills and what I have been training so hard for”.

Will, an Adelaide University Fencing Club member, has competed (and medalled) at Australian University Games and is looking forward to experiencing the higher level of competition and the chance to be a part of the Australian team, ‘Uni Roos’

Mike Daws, General Manager of AU Sport and Australian University Sport Board member says “It is wonderful to see students from the University of Adelaide being recognised by their National Sporting Organisations and will be given exposure to such an event. An event like this will provide them with the experience of elite competition and pressure. On behalf of the University of Adelaide and the AU Sport community, I wish Lilly, Will and Joseph all the best. “

The 2017 Summer Universiade takes place from 19-30 August and you can keep up to date with how Lilly, Will, Joseph and the rest of the Uni Roo team goes by following the team at @uniroos on Facebook.
