Vice-Chancellor's Cup 2017

Posted By Mike Daws on 11/09/2017

The ninth instalment of the Vice-Chancellor's Cup was run on Friday 8 September in a hotly contested race. With teams having some of the best individual times in the race's history, the race was going to be quick. In all four legs, we had a different leader, which made the race thrilling for those who came to support. Luke Hargreaves got Professions off to a flier, clocking a time of 2.06, but with two very strong runners from ECMS back to back they took the narrow lead going into the third runner. With Sciences taking the lead in the third leg, a lot of teams had much work to do. But as many races are, the anchor became the most crucial part, with Dominic Thewlis from Health and Medical Sciences and Sarah Sims from Sciences going stride for stride.

Come the last corner, there was little over 3m separating them. To put our readers out of their misery, AU Sport would like to offer its congratulations to the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences on taking out their third Vice-Chancellor's Cup! It was one of the closest finishes in the nine year history of the Cup, with Faculty of Sciences finishing within touching distance. Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences rounded out the podium.

1st - Health and Medical Sciences
2nd - Sciences
3rd - ECMS
4th - Professions
5th - Arts
6th - University Operations
7th - Division of Academic & Student Engagement

Well done to all involved; it was an amazing turn out. Here is to the 10th anniversary in 2018!
