The Half Blue is an award given to University of Adelaide students, who are members of an Adelaide University Sport club, for achievements at a high level. This year, Adelaide University Sport has three Half Blue recipients.
Harrison Francis - Adelaide University Boat Club
Harrison has been a member of the Adelaide University Boat Club for one year and is a very successful domestic rower. He was very unfortunate in not being selected for the South Australia open men's light-weight four, but as a result easily qualified to represent South Australia in the men's youth eight. His achievements include first place in the U21 men's double scull, first place in the U21 men's coxed four and first place in the U21 men's single scull, all achieved at the South Australian First Grade State Championships. Harrison also came sixth in at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta in his division.
Harrison has been helpful in maintaining the state of the fleet. He is one of the club's hardest working athletes and has been a great leader for other rowers.
Jordan Blanco - Adelaide University Touch Club
Jordan was the Vice President of the Adelaide University Touch Club from 2016-2018 and is now the Recruitment and Coaching Coordinator. He has been the Team manager of Uni Nationals since 2016 and takes on a large task with helping organise the teams each year. He was Vice-Captain of the Adelaide University team at Division 2 for Uni Nationals in 2018 and is a current member of the student committee for Uni Nationals. He began coaching in 2017, continued this throughout 2018 and coached a team in the club's autumn competition.
As well as representing Adelaide University Touch Club, Jordan has represented South Australia for two seasons. Trials for the 2019 season were held in mid December (2018) with roughly 40 people trialing for a 15 man squad. Jordan was also involved in a training camp of the YASS knockout competition. Jordan made the squad and competed for the SA Roosters in the Open Men's division at the 2019 National Touch Leauge in Coffs Harbour. He played all seven games and was South Australia's leading scorer.
Carys Jones - Adelaide University Boat Club
Carys has been an Adelaide University Boat Club member for two years and in that time has been extremely helpful as the manager of all rowing camps and 'away' regattas. Carys has excelled in this demanding position providing a great service to the club. She has represented the club in a number of interstate events and at first grade state championships, and did well to secure a seat in the Women's Youth Eight Interstate Rowing Regatta where she finished fifth.
