Volunteering is essential to the growth of sporting communities worldwide. This year, we have three finalists for our annual Non-Student Volunteer of the Year award presented at the Blues Awards.

Warren Pengilly - Adelaide University Baseball Club

Warren loves Baseball with a passion, treats the game with total respect and integrity. After 11 years at the Adelaide University Baseball Club, he volunteered to take on the Presidency role.

Through sheer hard work, and the with the support of a small committee, Warren has had a big impact at the club. His impact has led to the functional and financial stability of the club, and increase in social activity after introducing new events. In his year as Club President he has set the club's course in a positive direction where it has the chance to flourish.

Peter Stephen - Adelaide University Rugby Union Football Club

In Peter’s first year at the Adelaide University Rugby Club, Peter has established South Australia’s first Gay and Inclusive Rugby team that is set to compete in the local competition and abroad. He planned and outlined how the team would work within the Adelaide University Rugby Union Football Club current structure and the benefits of having such a team be involved with the club and the University of Adelaide.

Peter has also established a club academy to develop players new to rugby, has organised a touring team to the International Gay Rugby Purchase Cup, attended club recruitment stalls on campus, assisted in finding a student sit on a Sport’s Panel discussion at Adelaide University Union’s Pride Fest and has introduced many new members to Adelaide University Sport.

He has acted on the AURUC committee and undertaken the role of volunteer coordinator.

Craig Evans - Adelaide University Football Club

Craig works as the team manager for the Adelaide University Football Club's A Grade men’s team and has been a club member and volunteer for the past five years. In his unpaid role he attends all training and match days, coordinates all volunteers including runners, water runners, trainers, timekeeper and more.

Craig is always the first to put his hand up when there is no time keeper or match official present or available. He also brings all gear to and from matches and coordinates oval space when team's playing times clash from different grades and genders.
